Community groups will now be able to use Sylvan Lake’s lighthouse to celebrate their events.

Town council approved a new lighthouse lighting program at its meeting this week.

The lighthouse, which is equipped with LED lights, can be adjusted to allow for public lighting requests to celebrate major events and causes.

Requests must meet the following criteria.

-The event or cause must represent a not-for-profit and community focus;
-The Town of Sylvan Lake must receive the application at least three weeks in advance;
-Applications must support an event or cause of provincial, national, or international significance;
-Applications must support a local festival or event that positively influences community spirit; and
-Applications must support a local, provincial, national or international awareness issue that builds community inclusion or is related to community health

The Town says requests will be considered on a first come, first serve basis. Forms are available at SylvanLake.ca.
