Consumer protection open house in Red Deer Thursday

Sep 11, 2017 | 2:06 PM

Consumer protection will be the topic of discussion during an open house slated for Red Deer this week. It takes place at the Downtown Public Library on Thursday, September 14 from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m.

The Alberta government wants to hear the public’s views on contract-related issues such as warranties and cancellation rights, as well as shopping related concerns like transparency in pricing and reward points. Potential policy solutions will also be outlined at the session, one of six being held throughout the province this month.

Officials say public feedback will be gathered on 15 different topics. The most popular so far being the need for a Bill of Rights, ticket sales, car repairs and return policies. Other issues about marketplace fairness such as moving services and debt collection practices are also picking up steam.

Open Houses have been held in Edmonton and Calgary so far, with others to take place in Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray and Medicine Hat.
