Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup in Red Deer

Sep 10, 2017 | 3:01 PM

Dozens of Red Deerians gathered at the Kerry Wood Nature Centre on Sunday to take part in the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup.

After meeting to grab some bags, gloves and other supplies, roughly 40 men, women and children dispersed throughout the river valley to help clean it up from garbage and debris.

Nature Centre Special Events Coordinator Tanya Wells says they generally collect anywhere from 80 to 200 bags of garbage during the cleanup, including about 1,000 needles, various large items and the discovery of homeless camps, which the City looks after following these events. Wells adds there are usually close to 200 shoreline cleanups which take place across the country.
