Barricaded woman sets Didsbury residence on fire

Sep 8, 2017 | 1:28 PM

A woman and three RCMP officers were treated for smoke inhalation in Didsbury on September 6, after she barricaded herself inside a residence and set the place on fire.

Mounties say they attended the residence shortly after 8:00 p.m. to arrest the woman who was wanted on outstanding warrants. It’s alleged she resisted arrest though and barricaded herself inside with a machete before setting the place ablaze.

Olds RCMP and the Police Dog Service from Red Deer were called in to help, as did the Didsbury Fire Department which put out the flames and contained it to the one residence. Not before the upper floor however suffered significant damage.

The woman was eventually forced out by the toxic smoke and taken into custody. She now faces numerous charges in addition to her outstanding warrants. Her name has yet to be released.
