Red Deer area unemployment rate drops in August

RED DEER- Stats Canada numbers show the Red Deer area unemployment rate continues to fall.

The jobless rate dropped from 5.8. per cent in July to 5.6 per cent last month.

The unemployment rate in the Red Deer area was 9.6 per cent in August of 2016 and sat at 9 per cent just this past May.

The Alberta rate rose from 7.8 per cent in July to 8.1 per cent in August.

The national unemployment rate fell to 6.2 per cent, as 22-thousand, 200 net new jobs were added.

Stats Canada reports the economy gained 110,400 part-time jobs and lost 88,100 full-time positions.
