Youth HQ hosting second Adventure Playground

Aug 28, 2017 | 4:33 PM

Youth HQ is gearing up for its second Adventure Playground event following the program’s successful debut in June.

This time, Youth HQ are partnering not only with the Kerry Wood Nature Centre, but also AMPed2PLAY.

The second go-round is happening Saturday, September 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Rotary Picnic Park and is open to the entire public.

Youth HQ Executive Director Jacquie Boyd says Adventure Playground, which welcomed more than 110 people out the first time, has many benefits.

“This is a huge opportunity for the city of Red Deer to show leadership in some very creative out of the box thinking options for children to learn and grow and develop,” she says. “The benefits to the community will be pretty substantial in the development of our children and youth.”

Adventure Playground is modelled after similar projects in Calgary and around the world which foster imaginative play using donated recycled materials from cardboard to plastics to wood and tools.

Volunteers will be on hand to supervise the activities.
