Riggers split Friday games at nationals

Aug 26, 2017 | 10:49 AM

The Red Deer Riggers sit with a 2-1 record through two days of action at the 2017 Baseball Canada Men’s National Championship in Victoria.

The Riggers played twice on Friday, beating Manitoba 4-2 before losing a 4-3 decision to the host Victoria Mavericks.

A three-run first inning hit from Kerry Boon proved to be enough offence for Red Deer versus Manitoba.

Davin Gulbransen threw six strong innings from the mound, allowing five hits, two earned runs and one walk along the way. JP Wilner pitched the seventh inning.
