Mounties arrest two carjackers in Blackfalds, continue search for third suspect

Aug 25, 2017 | 1:29 PM

Two men are in custody while local Mounties are searching for a third suspect after two carjacking reports on Thursday.

Blackfalds RCMP say it was just before 3:30 p.m. when they were called about two males driving a green Jeep that had pulled up beside a parked vehicle on Highway 11A near Range Road 283, east of Sylvan Lake.

The men in the Jeep confronted four youth in the parked vehicle, pulling a gun on them demanding their vehicle. The youth fled in their vehicle, with the green Jeep chasing behind them.

The Jeep was later located in Sylvan Lake, where police say the two subjects took a white Lexus SUV at gunpoint from a lone female driver. Mounties from Blackfalds, Sylvan Lake and Red Deer then began a search for the suspects.

The white Lexus was later reported to be in Blackfalds. RCMP responded and carried out a high-risk takedown, bringing two men into custody.

The car itself was not located, but police say a piece of property from it was found at a home in Blackfalds.

RCMP in Sylvan Lake are still looking for the stolen 2010 white Lexus RX350 bearing Alberta licence 2NK 843.

Meantime, Blackfalds RCMP say they will be formally charging the two men arrested later today. They believe a third man is still at-large with the missing Lexus.

Anyone who spots the missing car is asked to call Blackfalds RCMP at 403-885-3300, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or go online.
