County seeks to reduce red tape for medical marijuana facilities

Aug 15, 2017 | 5:09 PM

Red Deer County is working toward clearing up some of the red tape that comes with setting up a medical marijuana grow operation.

Council gave first reading Tuesday to a land use bylaw amendment that would make it easier for the county to approve applications for medical marijuana facilities.

The amendment would make it so grow operations would be allowed in business services industrial and medium industrial districts.

Also, the changes would remove some of the county’s permit requirements that are already covered through federal approvals.
