A 12-year-old girl was rushed to hospital Monday evening after she was attacked by a dog in Brazeau County.

Police say they were called on August 7 at 5:30 p.m. to assist EMS at a residence in Brazeau County.

Upon arrival they found the girl who had been attacked by a dog and was suffering “very severe” injuries to her arm. She was then transported to hospital for medical attention.

Police believe the girl was attacked after she got in the middle of the dogs which were playing at the time.

Charges are possibly pending against the dog owners, who are the girls guardians.

The incident has prompted Sergeant Erin Matthews to remind the public that people need to be responsible for their pets.

“You could be facing charges for dangerous animals, there are bylaws in place for things like this. Pet owners are held accountable for their animals,” Matthews says.

The two Rottweilers were taken to the local pound, and will most likely be euthanized. Matthews says the owners have also voiced their wishes to have the dogs put down after the attack.

A second dog incident was reported to police the following day, when an individual in Drayton Valley was attacked by a German Shepherd. They suffered no injuries, and Mounties say that the dog was not known to the person and has not been located.
