Rampage head to provincials as north division champs

The Red Deer Rampage Jr. B Tier 1 lacrosse team is headed to provincials.

The squad was victorious in their best of three series against Sherwood Park over the weekend for the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League north division title.

Red Deer took game one 9-8 at the Kinex last Friday before squashing the Titans 13-5 in game two on the road.

Head Coach Trey Christensen says the team has the necessary momentum ahead of provincials in Edmonton.

“The season’s definitely gone well. We’ve gone through a bunch of injuries, but the kids have fought through it. We finished off with a pretty good record (17-3),” he says. “We haven’t faced a lot of adversity in the regular season, so you never know how your team’s going to stack up, but we had two very hard fought playoff series to get to this point, so I think we’re in good shape.”

Christensen adds the team was a young one when they advanced to provincials a year ago.

“Now we feel like we have what it takes to win it,” he says.

The Rampage play Friday night against the Edmonton Warriors, Saturday morning against the Manitoba Blizzard and Saturday evening against the Calgary Chill. Finals are scheduled for Sunday and Monday.

Provincials are being held at the Bill Hunter Arena in Edmonton.
