Mounties in Rocky Mtn. House say a local man fell victim to extortion after trusting someone he didn’t know on Facebook.

On July 21 around 4p.m., RCMP received a complaint from a male who received a "friend request" from an unknown female on Facebook who asked for an intimate video of himself.

After sending the video, the male later received a message from the woman demanding that he send money to a particular African country or she was going to post it to social media.

Luckily for the potential victim, police say he reported the attempted scam before sending along any money. So far the video he sent to the woman has not appeared online.

RCMP are encouraging the public to avoid these fraud attempts and not accept friend requests from people they do not know.
