Mounties looking for suspects in attempted campsite robbery

Jun 29, 2017 | 11:28 AM

Drayton Valley RCMP are investigating after a “terrifying” incident at a local campground.

Police say on June 28 around 8 a.m. they were dispatched to a campsite in the Brazeau Dam Provincial Park Campground after a report of a robbery with a firearm.

The campers were woken up by a vehicle pulling into their campsite, and got out of their trailer and were confronted by three suspects, with one of them pointing a rifle at the campers. At the same time another suspect attempted to load a flat deck trailer with two quads on it onto their truck.

The third suspect remained in the driver seat of the vehicle.

When the suspects were unsuccessful at attaching the trailer, they got into their vehicle and sped off.

The three suspects were wearing masks at the time and are described as;
–    First Nations
–    Males
–    In their 20’s to 30’s
The suspects’ vehicle is described as a white mid 2000’s four-door F-350 with a long box, diesel engine and tinted side windows.

Mounties say nothing was stolen from the campsite, and the victims were not injured.

The incident is believed to be related to a Break and Enter in Nordegg a few hours earlier, and Drayton Valley and Rocky Mountain House RCMP are working together on the case.

Corporal Mike Dawson reminded the public to try to secure any property you have while camping, or make it difficult to access when possible.

Dawson added “It’s a terrifying thing. In a situation like that, try not to confront the suspects. You can replace property, but you can’t replace people.”

Police are asking for any information on the suspects and suspect vehicle and are warning the public not to approach any of the suspects as they are considered armed and dangerous. If you want to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers.
