Trial has been ordered for a second man charged in relation to a fatal stabbing in north Red Deer.

Alan Beach, 31, died from injuries he suffered when he was stabbed in the parking lot at Village Mall on Nov. 18, 2015.

Bill Georgopoulos, 35, of Calgary is charged with manslaughter and accessory after the fact to murder. He was ordered to stand trial after a preliminary hearing was held this week in Red Deer court.

Trial dates have not yet been set.

Andrew Werth, 22, of Calgary had been facing the same charges but those counts were discharged following the prelim.

Daniel Boyd Sawyer, 32, is charged with second degree murder in relation to Beach’s death. His trial is scheduled for Nov. 13 – 30, 2018.

A preliminary hearing has been ordered for a man charged in a Remembrance Day homicide in Maskwacis.

Allan Joseph Soosay, 26, is charged with second degree murder, assault with a weapon, and assault causing bodily harm.

It was early morning on November 11, 2016 when officers responded to an altercation where two men were attacked with edged weapons. A 22-year-old man suffered non-life-threatening injuries while a 27-year-old man was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital in Ponoka. An autopsy was conducted the following Monday in Calgary in which the death was ruled a homicide.

Soosay’s hearing will take place July 24, 2016 in Wetaskiwin court.

Preliminary hearings are held to determine if there is enough evidence present for a case to proceed to trial.

A preliminary hearing will take place for a local man accused of robbing a taxi driver.

Kurt Werner, 31, was arrested following a following a police pursuit late last month, possessing a sawed-off shotgun and ammunition.

Following his arrest, Werner was connected by RCMP to the knifepoint robbery of a taxi driver in Red Deer on Feb. 2 of this year. In all, he was wanted on 18 outstanding warrants from Red Deer and Rocky Mountain house RCMP.

Werner will face a preliminary hearing in relation to the taxi robbery on September 13, 2017 in Red Deer court.
