Red Deer musicians win Provincial Championship titles

The Red Deer Festival of the Performing Arts Society had 22 individuals and groups taking part in the Alberta Music Festival Association Provincial Championships in Edmonton.

The were selected from the over 800 participants who participated in the Red Deer Festival in April.

Kathryn Fakeley and Kyra Aubin were crowned provincial champions.

Kathryn competed in the Cello Solo 12 & Under division to claim her provincial title.

Kyra’s first place result was in the Vocal Solo Girls 12 and Under division.

She also had a second place finish in the Musical Theatre Ballad 12 and Under division.

Other notable performers from Red Deer included Julia Butcher in the Cello solo 16 and under division.

Carter Friesen at the Provincial National Brass level and Hailey Wilson in the Musical Theatre Up-Tempo 16 & Under division.

All had second place finishes.

The Alberta Music Festival Association represents the majority of the music festivals that take place throughout the province every spring.
