Check and mate weekend for Thompson at Montreal Grand Prix

Jun 11, 2017 | 5:21 PM

Parker Thompson took not one, but two checkered flags this weekend at the Montreal Grand Prix.

A one-off deal with Exclusive Autosport allowed the Red Deerian to take his #90 car down a rank from the USF2000 to the F1600, but it meant racing at a vaunted venue and in conjunction with the famed Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada.

The weekend also marked a celebration of 50 years of F1 racing in Canada.

On Friday, Thompson recorded the second best lap, placing him in the front row for race one on Saturday. He sped to his first victory of the weekend winning by .411 of a second.
