High streamflow advisory issued for upper North Saskatchewan and Pembina River

A high streamflow advisory has been issued by Alberta Environment for portions of the upper North Saskatchewan River that are upstream from the Hamlet of Lodgepole and its tributaries.

Those tributaries include the Brazeau, Nordegg, Baptiste and Clearwater Rivers. The advisory says water level rises in these water courses vary between one to two metres, although final water level rises will be dependent on the storm track and final precipitation amounts.

The storm system in the region is expected to drop anywhere between 50 to 70 millimeters, with local amounts possibly going higher due to convective activity. The rain is expected to taper off by Saturday. 

An advisory was also issued for for the mainstem of the Athabasca River upstream of Whitecourt as well as the Pembina River. Water level rises in those water courses vary between two to three metres. 

A high streamflow advisory is issued when stream levels are rising or expected to rise rapidly and no major flooding is expected. Minor flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Anyone situated close to the streams affected is advised to be cautious of the rising levels.
