May 24, 2017 | 6:08 AM

A crash east of Red Deer Tuesday afternoon between a car and a semi claimed the life of a 39-year-old woman.

It was just before 4 p.m. when firefighters from Stettler and Alix, along with EMS and RCMP from Stettler and Bashaw responded to the collision at the intersection of Highway 11 and Highway 21 near the hamlet of Nevis.

Police say motorists provided first aid and assisted at the scene until emergency services arrived.

The central Alberta woman was the lone occupant of the Volkswagen car she was driving. She was pronounced deceased on scene. Her name is not being released at this time.

The 54-year-old male driver of the semi truck and trailer was not injured.

Traffic was re-routed traffic to nearby Highway 12 and local area roads while crews attended to the scene.
