UPDATE: Red Deer man charged in Rimbey vehicle theft

UPDATE [JUNE 28] – After receiving tips from the public, charges have been laid against a Red Deer man in relation to the April 23 vehicle theft at the Best Western Hotel in Rimbey. 

Jared McLeod, 23, is charged with theft of a motor vehicle and three counts of theft under $5000.

Arrest warrants have been obtained for McLeod and he remains at large. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact Rimbey RCMP at 403-843-2224, Crime Stoppers at 1.800.222.8477 (TIPS), or online at www.tipsubmit.com,

RIMBEY – RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance to identify a person of interest in the investigation of a minivan theft from the Rimbey Best Western on April 23.

At 6 a.m., a man arrived at the hotel on a bicycle, went into the hotel and stole a purse belonging to an employee.

The suspect then used keys found in the purse to steal a grey Dodge Caravan from the hotel parking lot.

The van has since been recovered.

Surveillance cameras at the nearby CanAlta hotel captured the attached image of a man matching the suspect’s description.

Rimbey RCMP are asking anyone that can identify the person to call them at 403-843-2223.
