A trio of Red Deer high school students fared very well at the recent Skills Canada Alberta provincial competition in Edmonton.

École Secondaire Notre Dame High School grade 11 student Shawn Roland won bronze in electrical installations, while the graduating Kenzie Armitage, also from Notre Dame, took bronze in intermediate level hairstyling.

Kaitlynn Morfitt, a student at Red Deer Public’s Hunting Hills, took silver in the IT Office Software Solutions – Level 2 competition.

Logan Jefford and Cody Frizzell, also of Hunting Hills, placed fourth in video production.

“Skills competitions are important because it maximizes opportunities for our students to learn more about trade and technology career opportunities in a fun and competitive environment,” said Tracey Millar, CTS Department Head at Notre Dame.

“All of our students did really well and we are very proud of them. They were very strong competitors in their respective divisions. Each of our students made an impact by sharing their gift and talents.”

In the post-secondary category, RDC students Tom Friesen (silver-sprinkler systems), Justin Meldrum (bronze-welding), and Eric Koster (bronze-electrical installations) all brought home medals.
