Red Deer RCMP briefs for May 5 to 10: Loaded rifle found in stolen truck

Red Deer RCMP say they made numerous arrests this week, predominantly due to concentrated police patrols in targeted areas and reports from the public.

Just after midnight on May 5, police responded to a disturbance at a downtown apartment building. They wound up arresting a 33-year-old woman and 41-year-old man for possessing what’s believed to be meth. The couple, who haven’t yet had their charges sworn before the courts, are also facing a count of resisting arrest after a brief altercation with police.

Just before midnight the same day, Mounties were on patrol downtown and located a stolen Dodge Ram. They surrounded it and took the female driver into custody. The truck had been stolen out of Stettler that day.

Madison Leigh Coutre, 24, will appear in Court on May 15.

On May 6, police responded around 1:30 a.m.to a report of a suspicious vehicle in a south Red Deer parking lot. A suspect was located and it turned out to be a man wanted on an outstanding warrant out of Boyle. The 23-year-old is facing charges for drug possession (meth) and failing to appear in court.

Around 2 p.m. on May 7, RCMP were called to a home in Morrisroe after an alert neighbor noticed activity inside a vacant house. Three women were taken into custody. 19-year-old Jamie Befus and 36-year-old Sheri-Lynn Koch are both charged with break and enter, while Tessa Smith, 20, is charged with failure to comply with conditions and possession of identity documents.

Later that evening around 8:30, RCMP located a man downtown wanted on several outstanding warrants following an arrest in November. 27-year-old Cody Gouda was arrested and will appear in Court May 19 to speak to charges of uttering a forged document and possession of stolen property.

At about 7 p.m. on May 8, police conducted a traffic stop downtown and found three men and an underage girl in possession of significant amounts of what they believe to be crystal meth and large bags of marijuana.

Nicholas Tweedle, 20, Ethan Carson, 19, Spencer Hansen, 20, and a 17-year-old girl are charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

On May 9 around 7:30 in the morning, police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked and running in the Highland Green area. They found a Chevrolet Silverado which was stolen, and arrested the man inside without incident. He was wanted on a warrant for breaching several court-imposed conditions.

The truck, which was stolen from Sylvan Lake, also contained a loaded rifle out of the truck which police seized. 32-year-old Tyler Shaw faces several charges related to possession of stolen property, firearms and driving while unauthorized.

Around 2:30 p.m. on May 9, RCMP were patrolling the back alleys of an area they say is known for criminal activity and located a suspect in a vehicle which a stolen license plate. The man, who was wanted on several warrants out of Blackfalds was arrested. The stolen plate was from Red Deer. A 41-year-old man faces stolen property charges.

On May 10, while doing foot patrols downtown, Mounties located a suspect who was found to be breaching court-imposed conditions and in possession of break-in tools. Stephen Ashton, 24, was arrested and will appear in Red Deer Court May 12.
