Fire destroys two mobile homes in Blackfalds

May 12, 2017 | 9:07 AM

BLACKFALDS – A fire destroyed two mobile homes last night in Blackfalds.

It was at about 10:15 p.m. when Blackfalds firefighters along with a crew from Lacombe were called to the Blackfalds Estates Mobile Home Park, located just off of Highway 2A and Gregg Street.

Everyone managed to get out safely and there were no injuries.

There was some minimal damage to neighbouring units. Crews were able to contain the fire within about two hours. It took 24 firefighters, three pumper trucks, one rescue unit and one mobile command unit to completely extinguish the fire.

The Town of Blackfalds opened up the Community Hall to residents impacted by the fire, and Red Cross helped by providing accommodation at the Blackfalds Microtel Inn & Suites. Pets owned by affected residents were temporarily relocated by Klassic Kennels to their facility.

Investigators have started looking into what caused the blaze.

There is no safety concern for residents, but they are asked to stay clear of the incident site while the investigation is ongoing.

Those interested in helping out or donating items to the two families displaced by the fire are asked to contact Blackfalds Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) at 403-600-9066. At this time, FCSS will not be taking donations, but will be keeping an inventory of people with an interest in providing support.
