Red Deer has recorded its second homicide of 2017.

RCMP responded to an apartment in our city just after 6 a.m. Wednesday and found a 26-year-old Red Deer man in medical distress following a "severe assault."

The man was flown to hospital in Calgary with serious injuries. He was pronounced dead on Thursday after being taken off of life support.

An autopsy conducted Friday at the Calgary Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the manner of death was a homicide.

RCMP Major Crimes South has taken on the investigation with assistance of Red Deer General Investigation Section members.

Police say will not be releasing the name of this victim at this time.

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact Red Deer RCMP your local police detachment.
