It’s the day Sylvan Lakers have long been looking forward to.
Three years after the roof of the beloved Sylvan Lake Arena collapsed, its replacement, the $33.5 million NexSource Centre, is officially open.
Where the old arena once stood for four decades there’s now a brand rink, next to the existing one, featuring an NHL-size ice surface, new dressing rooms, and a three-lane running track.
The multiplex also features a new five sheet curling rink, lounge and concession areas, seniors centre, meeting and event rooms, and the renovated and upgraded aquatic centre.
The first hockey game at the Nexsource Centre goes Friday morning, kicking off a busy weekend that will feature the Tournament of Champions. Further grand opening celebrations are planned in May.
