A man convicted in a drug-related shooting near Pine Lake has been sentenced to nine years in prison.

In the early morning hours of June 2, 2014, Donald Bernie Brown, who was 31 at the time, was shot twice in the face with a 22 caliber rifle. He managed to run to a nearby property to get help.

A jury found 31-year-old Cory Lavallee guilty of attempted murder after a trial this past October.

Lavallee took the stand in his own defence and denied pulling the trigger, but a jury rendered a guilty verdict after four hours of deliberation.

Lavallee was originally scheduled to be sentenced next week, but the case was brought forward.
