A Bluffton area couple is now comfortably at home with their new bundle of joy.

Stacie Bishop and Clinton Sadek welcomed Aleah Mae Sadek January 1 at 5:44 a.m., Red Deer Regional Hospital's first delivery of 2017.

Bishop said it was a quick process, but far from comfortable.

"I was scheduled for a Caesarean on the third. About 12:30 a.m. just after midnight, I started to have contractions. At about 1:30, we started the trip to Red Deer, about an hour drive," she said. "The roads were less than ideal, snow-covered and windy, so that trip was definitely a lot longer than normal."

Bluffton is located nearly 100 kilometres northwest of Red Deer in Ponoka County.

Bishop said the last thing on their minds coming in was being the New Year's Baby.

"When they told us that [she was the first], it was definitely a unique experience," she said. "We had different thoughts on our minds."

Aleah Mae, the couple's first child, weighed in at five pounds, two ounces and is doing well.
