At least one Red Deer-based lottery is beating the economic odds.

Craig Smallwood with the Red Deer Kinsmen says ticket sales for their 2016 Dream Home Lottery are going great in spite of the tough financial times Alberta is facing.

"I feel like it's been one of our finer moments and the community's really using it as a platform to band together and really help each other out," he says.

Funds raised from the lottery help fund childrens lunch programs, putting kids through hockey and soccer, and contribute to the food bank, just to name a few. A portion of proceeds spent in other communities like Lacombe, Rimbey, Ponoka and Innisfail will stay with Kinsmen chapters in those places.

This year's home is worth an estimated $740,000 and is located at 45 Larratt Close in Lancaster South. The house features a number of glass, concrete and chrome accents, and even has a beer tap.

The early bird ticket deadline is November 29 at 11:59 p.m. and the final deadline is 6 p.m.on New Year's Eve. The final draw will take place later that evening.
