Several schools in Rocky Mountain House were placed under lockdown this morning while RCMP were on the hunt for a suspect.

Mounties between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. were searching in the area of West Central High School. Staff Sgt. Mark Groves says RCMP says officers recovered a stolen vehicle during the search but the suspect was not located. One of two stolen rifles was turned up while the other remains missing.

Wild Rose School Division Superintendent Brad Volkman says the lockdown has since been lifted for all schools in the area and that students will attend class today as usual.

Groves says officers will continue to search for the suspect, who is described as being First Nations with black hair just below the ears, around 5'10 with a slim build. He was said to be wearing a black hoodie with grey/green pants.

It's not known whether the suspect is still in possession of the other stolen rifle.
