LETHBRIDGE, Alta. - An inmate who escaped from a work site broke into a southern Alberta home and terrorized a resident, but was caught shortly after.

Police say minimum-security inmates from the Lethbridge Correctional Centre were working in the Henderson Lake area when one fled just before noon Thursday.

The suspect broke into a home, confronted the homeowner who was alone and demanded her car keys.

The woman tried to call police but the inmate struggled with her before fleeing with her cellphone.

The man then tried to take her car but was unsuccessful.

Police saw the inmate, gave chase and took the man into custody.
