Red Deerians have been given their first look at what the "New Red Deer Arena" will look like.

The initial concept plan for the new rink were on-display at Friday's farewell celebration for the 64-year-old Red Deer Arena, which is slated for demolition later this Spring.

The new arena, to be built at the same location, comes with a budget in the range of $21-million.

Featured in the initial design are seats for six full-size dressing rooms plus additional 'flex' dressing rooms, designed warm-up areas for teams, open concourse and seats for 1360 spectators. The second level includes a running track, concession area and washrooms.

Both the first and second levels of the new facility will connect to the curling rink (Pidherney Centre) next door. The building is also designed in such a way that a second ice sheet can be added in the future.

The new arena is currently slated for completion for Fall 2018.
