Donations being collected for family of fallen Red Deer police officer

Feb 4, 2023 | 10:49 AM

Donations are being collected for the family and children of a police officer from Red Deer who sadly passed away in Mexico recently.

Cst. Aaron Zimmerman was on holiday with his girlfriend and two sons in recent days. The cause of his death, which occurred Jan. 25, has not been made public.

Now, funds are being raised to cover the costs of bringing him home, via the National Police Federation Benevolent Foundation.

Zimmerman, 41, joined the RCMP in 2017 and was stationed in Red Deer.

In Zimmerman’s obituary, it’s noted he was born in Calgary and spent lots of time on the farm.

“From a young age, he had an ability to make people laugh,” it says. “His charismatic presence and ability to make people feel comfortable led him to being Class President in High School.”

Donations can be made on the Benevolent Foundation website; make sure to selected ‘Yes’ under Dedicate this Donation, and then note the name ‘Aaron Zimmerman’ in the Honoree Details section.

Cst. Zimmerman’s life will be remembered at 11 a.m. on Feb. 8 at CrossRoads Church in Red Deer County.

If unable to attend the Celebration of Life in person, you may watch his service via Livestream at www.crossroadschurch.ca/livefunerals.
